Then list all the things you want to collect, and try to find a way to get each of them out of, and then to send each of them to, each ereader you want to support. If all the readers in your collection support a common format (epub?) that might be possible. Maybe you could just use a cryptographic hash of the ebook file. For starters, each such created entry would be meaningless except in the context of a specific binary version of a specific ebook, and I don't know of any existing metadata that can be the key. The big successes in cross-platform format conversion, dating back at least to Jef Poskanzer's PBM for images, and closer to this topic Calibre for ebooks, are each anchored to a central common format which any entry (image for PBM, ebook for Calibre) can be converted to and from.Ĭreating such a rendezvous format for the artifacts created by interacting with an ereader would be fun, though challenging. Some Android ereader apps save some information to local files, KORreader and Moon+ Reader Pro that I know of, and I think those are intended for cross-device syncing, but again, each will be different, and you'll need to try to find or write a converter for each pair. Kindle devices save some things in files, which could be backed up, though I don't know if copying them back down to another kindle would accomplish anything. I'd love to be wrong, but I fear that such syncing (and you left out reading progress, arguably the first I'd look for) will be completely separate and distinct for each ereader app or device I've never heard of a standard for saving such created information.
